Please take a moment to welcome the very lovely and talented :iconjoyfullyartistic:, who was one of my students at the museum earlier this year. She's got a natural ability with watercolour, but I think that she could do anything she put her mind to. A truly wonderful young lady. ^_^

Hi!

The weekend show in Dalton went okay. Because of the lousy weather (I'm sure you've heard that the greater Atlanta area is pretty much flooded), the exhibition was moved into the museum.

So I spent Sunday trying to make back my investment in the show and maybe a little profit so I could pay the utility bill at the gallery.

I schmoozed with people, laughed and joked, and tried to sound like I knew what I was talking about when it comes to art. People seemed tremendously amused - I figured I must have really caught them at a good time, regardless of the rain. People also seemed to spend a lot of time talking to me and grinning a lot. Happy people in Dalton, I guess.

So after the exhibition was over, I packed up the car and headed for home.

About twenty miles outside of Dalton, I looked down and realised I'd spent the whole day Sunday at the museum with my zip down.

Commissions: The holiday season is fast approaching. If you'd like me to paint for you, I'd be more than happy to, but it's best to get your reference photo to me early. I generally set a cut-off date of December 1 for holiday orders. I think you'll find that my prices are reasonable; I have a quick turn-around time and I always guarantee my work. ^_^

I am also :iconramonaq: - please go there to look over my animal paintings. :)

This little story was sent to me by my dear friend :iconstrivin2bme:

Yesterday I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Biscuit the Wonder Dog, and was in the checkout queue when woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had, an elephant?

So since I had little to do, on impulse I told her, "No, I don't have a dog. I'm starting the Purina Diet again." I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of my nostrils and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet. I explained that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the check-out queue was now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me.

I told her, "No, I stepped off a kerb to sniff an Irish Setter's bum and got hit by a car." I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.

Walmart won't let me shop there anymore.

Your Art in a Real Gallery!

My gallery is hosting an exhibition of twenty works by twenty different artists from twenty nations on August 1. Through my :iconramonaq: account, I'm accepting applications to enter, but the deadline is June 1, so you'll need to hurry. ;)

The exhibit will be heavily advertised, and I'll take and post a ton of photos from the opening reception. This is an opportunity for you to have your work framed and exhibited in an actual art gallery, so I invite you to take advantage of this chance to be seen.

For details, please see :iconramonaq:'s Journal: [link]

International Exhibition Scheduled

I've been meaning to do this for a long time.

DeviantArt provides a unique opportunity because it allows me to communicate with artists from all over the world. My relationship with DeviantArt members has given my gallery the chance to do something that other galleries in the area simply can't - hosting an exhibition of works by artists from all over the globe.

I've set the date for the opening of the exhibition as Saturday, August 1. This allows me little time to get everything prepared, but since it's during the summer months when there aren't exhibitions of my own to attend, I think I can get everything worked out.

This is an opportunity for DA artists from around the globe to have their work framed and exhibited in a real gallery. For those of you who have not had gallery representation before, it's a great way to get noticed and looks good on a resume' or application.

A few quick notes:

1. I will accept one work from twenty different nations. I know - it's not fair to the more populous nations.

2. I ask that if you decide to enter, please offer only one work.

3. Preference is for smaller works - smaller frames help my gallery keep its costs down. Preference is also for original work over prints.

4. If you enter, please submit a link to your work in a Note to :iconramonaq: (not as a Reply to this Journal) and indicate your country's name as the title for the Note.

5. Deadline for entries is Monday, June 1. I will let the selected entrants know of the decision by Note on or about that date.

6. I will provide the gallery's mailing address to the artists whose work is selected, but you're responsible for the cost to ship the work to me. I'll pay for the return shipping for any unsold work.

7. The gallery's commission for sales is one-third of the total sales price. NFS ("not for sale") work will be considered, but preference will be given to saleable works.

8. If your work is selected, I will contact you by Note and ask for your personal contact information. This will allow me to get in touch with you if there's a problem or question and allows me to return unsold work. For this reason, if you are under 18, I ask that you have parental consent before entering.

9. Payments for work sold through the gallery will be made through PayPal or international money order and will be sent after the show comes down on Saturday, September 5. Unsold works will be returned during the week of September 7 through 12.

10. Three-dimensional as well as two-dimensional work will be considered for the exhibition.

11. 809 Gallery cannot be responsible for work lost in the mail, so I recommend that if your work is chosen, please send it certified and/or insured.

12. Selected work must be received by the gallery no later than Saturday, July 18.

I imagine I'll get a lot of entries, so if your work is not selected, don't take it as a personal affront. Since 809 Gallery is a business, I have to consider factors such as sales price, saleability, size, etc. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.

By the way, I've hosted an exhibition in the past of the work of :icondabull04: - he may be able to help you if you have any questions about being an international exhibitor at 809 Gallery as well.
