Leather Teddy by theancientofdays Leather Teddy by theancientofdays
This is a hand-sewn big leather teddy bear I made a few years ago; I found a bunch of leather on sale and thought I'd try something unusual with it. This bear happens to be made of elk leather. He's about 20" tall. As I recall, hand-stitching leather is pretty difficult... :)

EDIT: Geez. Okay, okay...I'll move it into Scraps.

A "teddy" is a woman's undergarment - kind of like a girdle, except that it's supposed to be a bedtime thing. :D

...

You have to admit, though. The Leather Daddy/Teddy idea is kind of awesome, too.

:( But now you've got me thinking of underwear.
I hope you're happy. ;_;

:D Glad you like him! I made a lot of bears - most of them were donated to the police in our area to give to kids in domestic situations. ^^

:D I had a really hard time figuring out which needle to use. It turned out that a teensy needle works a lot better than a big fat one, and I forgot my thimble, so I kept puncturing my thumb with the end of the needle.

Thankyou very much! I've made about 200 bears, but never got photos of very many of them. I donated most of them to the police department to give to children involved in bad domestic situations. ^_^

:wow: Chris the demon with a needle :lmao: this is so great it's a pretty professional jod you did here
I just read through your messages to understand why you put this in scraps :(
First of all YOU didn't kill the animal you used the skin from
Second It was probably killed for food hopefully without suffering so why are people griping, the same ones winging probably have a leather wallet in their back pocket and leather in their shoes ;)
put it back in you proper gallery where it deserves to be and not in scraps

:D Oh, you do not. :lmao: I guess I use my Scraps differently than a lot of people - mostly just classrom stuff and tutorials. I wish there was a different way to organise it because I think a lot of people don't look in Scraps thinking that it's all just junk.

Thank you very (and I do mean very :D ) much! It's really thick leather, and I had a tough time with a leather needle. Then I realised that it would probably be easier with a tiny sharp, so I switched to the little needle and it was a lot easier. Except threading. Threading upholstery thread in a little sharp is no easy task. :D

You're so very welcome. The leather seems to grab on to
the needle,it's tough to push through by hand.I have a hard time
threading regular thread in a little sharp never mind upholstery
thread  A lot of hard work went into this and it really looks amazing. :w00t:

:D Oh, I sew a lot. I need to start making winter hats for the cooler weather. :) I sew quilts and clothes and stuffed animals - I often teach the younger classes how to sew by hand and use a sewing machine, too. It's a lot of fun, but I keep forgetting that there's a DA category for sewing. :D

lol well I may be for animal rights and everything but atleast people find use to the hide among other things from the animal. Anyway, I won't get into that argument- this is well done and it reminds me of one of those really old teddy bears from like the 1800s. Zero would love to eat this for sure :) haha

I agree that leather generally looks best holding the animals' insides in. I don't think I'd do something like this these days. On the other hand, it's built to last. We have to keep this from Carl, too - he'll eat anything. :D
